Substance identification and sameness analysis for REACH

The REACH Pre-registration deadline has now passed and ECHA has produced a list of 350,000 substances that have been pre-registered. As the REACH legislation incorporates a One Substance One Registration (OSOR) principle, companies must work out if their substance is the same. This requires a clear understanding and analysis of your substance to establish identification and sameness. This ‘pre-SIEF’ phase, looking at sameness, is a step required today before becoming a member of a Substance Information Exchange Forum (SIEF) or not.

Intertek’s Global Analytical Services laboratories are able to assist with the analysis of your substance to establish identification and sameness. Both of these are required during the Pre-SIEF phase of the REACH process. The type of information required includes:

  • Identification, name and nomenclature
  • Molecular and structural formula, including SMILES notation, optical activity and molecular weight
  • Composition and characterisation including: purity, impurities, spectral and chromatography data
  • For all types of substances:
    • Those with a well defined composition (Mono-constituent and Multi-constituent substances)
    • UVCB - Substances of Unknown or Variable composition, Complex reaction products or Biological materials
