Overall Migration Testing of Food Packaging

Global migration testing of plastics and other packaging materials

Intertek provides overall migration tests according to the standard EN 1186 : Materials and articles intended to come into contact with foodstuffs, tests for several food simulants and under several test conditions.

Simulants

Water
3 % acetic acid
10 % ethanol
Olive oil
alternative simulants : iso-octane, 95 % ethanol and MPPO

European directives lay down the rules for selecting the appropriate food simulant and the test conditions for testing the materials in relation to their application.

For these analyses, Intertek has a wide range of analytical techniques in-house including gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, ICP-AAS, etc.
