Testing of materials to comply with national and international regulations
Many materials have to meet certain requirements in order to comply with national and international legislation. The most important requirement is that no compounds of a packaging or food contact material may migrate into the contact material.
Packaging materials may also not alter the organoleptic properties of the food. These basic guidelines are regulated in statute EG 1935/2004. Specific regulations for plastic materials to come in contact with food are laid down in guideline 2002/72/EC and amendments.
