Global Sampling and Laboratory Quality Analysis of Pipeline Transmix Products

Intertek provides testing, field sampling, sample transport and related services to help clients determine the chemical properties and quality of pipeline transmixed products. In addition, Intertek offers a wide range of pipeline services.

Key tests run on trans-mix interface and related products include contamination and quality assessments. The labs provide measurements if required for sulfur content and species, octane, cetane and many other tests as required. Pipeline testing includes analysis of trace level compounds and identification of unknown materials found in the transmix or the pipeline such as films, coatings, precipitates and more.

Intertek field personnel can obtain samples of the transmix and related pipeline products in the field and deliver them to the Intertek laboratory for prompt testing, depending upon location and urgency. Various petroleum refined products can be subject to some co-mingling during shipment in a multi-product pipeline. Transmix occurs usually at the beginning and end of a product shipment since it is shipped in sequence with other products in order to keep the pipeline full and flowing. Products subject to potential transmix co-mingling include gasoline, diesel and aviation-gasoline, home heating oil and other pipeline fuels.
