Analysis of Ship Lubricants

Intertek LQS Analysis of Maritime Shipping Lubricants for the Maritime Industry

Intertek Lubricant Quality Scan marine services provide full engineering interpretation of lubricant quality test data, providing the client with a comprehensive report on both the condition of the lubricating oil and health of the ship machinery.

High levels of wear particles may, for instance, give advance warning of possible engine malfunction allowing early remedial action to be taken. On the other hand, good overall results suggest no undue wearing is taking place and the operator may extend the interval between services or the life of the oil charge, reducing ship operating costs and the environmental problems associated with waste oil disposal.

Analysis of engine and machinery lubricant test results include:

  • Viscosity
  • Insolubles
  • Flashpoint
  • Oxidation
  • Water Content
  • Acid Number
  • Wear-Metal Elements:
    • PQ Index
    • Fibre Count
    • Contamination
    • Oil Cleanliness
  • And additional analytical services if required.
