Petrochemical and Other Pilot Plant Applications

Pilot Plant Process Facilities for Non-hydroprocessing Applications

Intertek PARC’s fixed bed pilot plants can also be used in non-hydroprocessing applications. These applications can generally be categorized as follows:

  • Gas Feed Only
  • Liquid Feed Only
  • Liquid and Gas Feed

Gas Feed Only:

  • Gases can be mixed by metering them individually into the pilot plant. An on-line gas chromatograph allows on-stream analysis of the feed gas mixture currently limited to refinery gas. The gas mixture can also be delivered from cylinders or tube trailer and is prepared to client’s specification. Certification of composition by third party is available. The product can either be in the gas, liquid and/or low melting solids. The on-line process gas chromatograph is also available for product analysis. Alternatively, the product gases can be collected in gas bags and analyzed off-stream. Steam tracing (120 psig max) can be used to provide uniform heating throughout the product section in case the product is solid at room temperature.

Liquid Feed Only:

  • The feed can be either liquid or low melting solid. The feed section of the pilot plant can be heated above the melting point of the solids. Steam tracing (120 psig max) is used to provide uniform heat throughout the feed section.. The liquid feed is pumped into the unit and metered either by volume using a burette or by weight using a closed feed weigh tube. The products can either be in the gas, liquid and/or solid phase. An on-line process gas chromatograph is also available for product analysis. Alternatively, the product gases can be collected in gas bags and analyzed off-stream. Steam tracing (120 psig max) can be used to provide uniform heating throughout the product section in the case that the product is solid at room temperature.

Liquid and Gas:

  • A combination of Liquid and Gas Feeds.
