GEAR LUBRICANTS TESTING

Automotive Gear Lubricants Laboratory

Intertek PARC’s Automotive Testing Services (ATS) laboratory provides a wide range of engine related testing for gear lubricants, engine oils and more. The lab is ISO 17025 certified for certain Gear Oil Tests ASTM J2360 (MIL-L-2105E) and maintains the highest standards expected by all of our customers.

Intertek PARC Automotive Gear Lubricant Tests include:

Gear Lubricant Testing:

  • L-33 Referenced Test (ASTM D7038)

Evaluates the rust and corrosion inhibiting properties of a gear lubricant. The test is run using a DANA Model 30 hypoid differential assembly.

  • L-37 Referenced Test (ASTM D6121)
    • Evaluates load carrying capabilities of a lubricant under conditions of low speed and high torque, using DANA Model 60 hypoid differential with lubrited or non-lubrited gears. Categories include high temperature, low temperature, wet, and standard.
  • L-42 Referenced Test (ASTM D7452)
    • Determines the anti-scoring properties of gear lubricants under high speed and shock conditions using a DANA model 44 hypoid rear axle. Categories include high temperature, low temperature.
  • HTCT Referenced Test (ASTM D5570)
    • Evaluates high temperature thermal stability of fluids in a Mack manual transmission using hybrid hardware configuration.

Spur Lubricant Testing:

  • FZG Scuffing Test (ASTM D5182)
    • Evaluates mildly additized industrial gear oil resistance to scuffing on spur gears.

  • FZG Pitting Test
    • Evaluates a lubricant’s resistance to pitting on special spur gears.
  • FZG Sprung Test
    • Evaluates oils for new parts protection under severe conditions. Usually run after failing stage of pitting test is determined.
  • FZG (High Performance Scuffing Test)
    • Evaluates a lubricant’s resistance to scuffing using special A-10 spur gears.
  • FZG Sprung Test
    • Evaluates oils for new parts protection under severe conditions. Usually run after failing stage of pitting test is determined.
  • FZG Micro-Pitting Test
    • Evaluates a lubricant’s resistance to micro-pitting on spur gears.
