The NWTC UK laboratory provides analytical techniques for visualising and measuring microscopic features. Nanoscale techniques include SEM/EDXA, TEM (cryo & freeze-fracture), AFM, Interference microscopy, Light microscopy. Additionally the laboratory has the specialist capability of providing ultra fast freezing methodologies for examination of water based samples (emulsions, gels, foods and microbiological).
A comprehensive SEM or SEM/EDX service is available at Intertek NWTC. SEM finds applications across a large range of sample types and industry sectors. For more information please click here
TEM is a powerful technique which has the highest spatial resolution of all the common microscopies. It finds applications in the analysis of ultrastructure of a range of sectors such as material sciences and biological microscopy. Click here for further information
Optical microscopy remains a powerful tool for characterisation of certain product types and addressing particular problems. Intertek NWTC has an extensive capability within this area - click here for further information
NWTC has a unique capability for the analysis of high water content liquid samples using cryogenic ultra fast freezing techniques. To learn more about this please click here.
Other Microscopy Techniques:
In addition to the techniques listed the microscopy group also has other capabilities such as:
Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) - study of surface topography on a nanometre scale
