Intertek provides knowledge, expertise and comprehensive lab testing for assessing whether food contact materials eg. plastics and packaging materials comply with the necessary requirements for both overall and specific migration of material constituents into foodstuffs.

Within the European Union, the framework regulation (EC) 1935/2004 lays down the stipulations for materials and articles intended to come into contact with foodstuffs. For plastics material and articles intended to come into contact with foodstuffs, the requirements are laid out in directive 2002/72/EG and associated amendments.
