Intertek food testing laboratories and inspection offices test and inspect spices on a global basis. The spice testing labs screen for a number of quality control parameters, and select laboratories provide testing for detection of Sudan Red, Para Red, and other illegal dyes. Spice Testing conforms to the American Spice Trade Association (ASTA), AOAC and other industry standards. Spice tests available include:

  • Purity % (depending upon spice product)

  • Heavy Metals Content: lead, cadmium, mercury
  • Pesticides Content, consistent with good agricultural practice
