HOUSTON, September 10 2005 /Intertek--
Dear Customers, Friends, Co-workers and Colleagues,
I have spent the last couple of days together with Jay Gutierrez (VP Intertek CB Americas) traveling and visiting our offices and facilities in Louisiana. I have found that we have been extremely fortunate in the wake of Katrina. All offices and laboratories have in the main suffered minor damage and we have power and communications with the exception of Gretna. Operations for Gretna are being run from New Orleans Laboratory and we expect to be back in the next few days once power has been restored. Most importantly we now have communicated with all of our 268 employees. As far as we are aware, all are confirmed safe and well. We are operational in most locations, testing samples and inspecting vessels - including our Mobile, Alabama facility as well. Overall we expect it will take some time before we get back to normal levels of business given the catastrophic effect the storm has had on some of our customers facilities and the port infrastructure.
Having met with our people in Gonzales and at each of the New Orleans offices on Tuesday, I am overwhelmed by the tremendous effort they have put into getting Intertek Caleb Brett back working again. This effort is also mirrored in our people based in Houma, Lake Arthur and Mobile and many others working in HQ and around the US. They have given so much to help their co-workers and our customers, it is truly a magnificent achievement and it makes us very proud that they are working for our company, and I thank them all.
We will continue to do everything to support them and their families through this difficult time, with food,clothing,accommodation and financial support as needed. I would like to repeat the message that myself and Jay received time and time again, that they appreciate so much the help you and the company has given to them, they really feel glad to be part of the Intertek family.
We will keep you informed as we have more news of the recovery efforts in the affected areas. If any one needs any further information or wants to know how they can help, please e-mail katrina.info@intertek.com.
Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been touched by this devastating storm.
Kind Regards;
Mark Loughead
