Petroleum and Refining companies no longer have had to send samples to laboratories in Europe, Asia-Pacific or North America to obtain independent assays on crude oils sourced in the Middle East region. The UAE petroleum laboratory network offers customers professional testing analysis with a fast sample turn-round time.

The Fischer Automatic Total Boiling Point (TBP) Distillation unit for crude oils and condensates performs distillations in accordance with ASTM D 2892. The instrument acts as a refinery "in-miniature" with distillations taking between 10 and 14 hours for regular crudes and slightly longer for heavier crude oil products.

Physically distilling a crude or condensate in the same way that a refinery does produces naphtha, gas oil, fuel oil and other fractions. The laboratory can then calculate the potential yields for any given crude oil or condensate. By analysing these fractions in the laboratory we give a client an accurate predication of the quality that the refiner / trader is likely to obtain should he purchase and refine the crude or condensate being assayed.

Assays are an important tool to the refiner when deciding which crude oil feedstocks to refine. The UAE laboratory is ideally placed to offer rapid and accurate results. In versatile refinery units, crude oil assay information is critical as it enables the customer to alter crude oil feedstocks and maximize the returns on the basis of open-market spot and individual product prices.

Operationally, accurate crude oil assay data enables the feedstock refinery customer to source crude oil feedstocks that are more suited to producing the volume of individual cuts and quality for particular oil refineries.
