Intertek offers laboratory testing to manufacturers, distributors and retailers of dietary supplements, additives, vitamin supplements, herbal supplements and more.

The laboratories identify contaminants in both domestic and imported supplements, including analysis for the presence of pharmaceuticals and heavy metals to help ensure your product meets FDA label compliance. The labs test concentrates, extracts, and pharmacologically active compounds.

The USA 1994 Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) prevents manufacturers from claiming that a product prevents or treats a disease or disorder. The FDA can require that a manufacturer recall product and change a label that it decides is making an unauthorized health claim.

DSHEA directs that supplement makers must be able to substantiate their claims.

The Federal Trade Commission has the authority to punish companies whose ads are intentionally misleading. It can force companies to give it documents substantiating suspect claims and order the products off the market if it decides that the substantiation isn't sufficient.
