Marine Fuel Specification Testing

Intertek offers the full ISO 8217 testing for the various Marine Fuel grades. Intertek now offers the analysis according to the third version of the specification as it was introduced on November 2005. Also see Bunkerspot Dec. 2005 for more infomration about the changes.

Fuel Stability

Stability testing is needed to predict whether an oil can be blended with another batch without causing stability problems (e.g. precipitation of asphalthenes). The test also provides information to assess whether the product is Straight run, or cracked material. More information can be found on the Fuel Oil Stability web page.

Fuel Combustion and Ignition Characteristics

A recently introduced test method now allows for the testing of the ignition characteristics of bunker fuels. The test measures the delay between injection of the fuel sample in a pre-heated and presurised combustion chamber, and the start of ignition of the fuel. An Estimated Cetane Number is than calculated on the basis of an equation previously established by testing of reference fuels.
