Use of GPC by Intertek scientists yield rapid molecular weight distribution results for a wide range of polymers and materials. GPC analyzes organic and water-soluble polymer samples, providing determination of molecular weight and molecular weight distribution.

Besides calculating the molecular weight distribution of a polymer, GPC analysis measures the number average molecular weight, the weight average molecular weight and the Z weight average molecular weight. Gel permeation chromatography is also refered to as Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC) or gel filtration chromatography. GPC is useful in measuring molecular weight and poly-dispersity in synthetic polymers.
