Microalgae
GEOTECH performs a 48 hr EC50 microalgal bioassasy using the marine alga Isochrysis galbana and the fresh water alga Selenastrum capricornutum. However, to more accurately predict effects on species found on the North West Shelf, GEOTECH is able to perform this test also on several other algae species.
Microtox
GEOTECH performs a 15 minute EC50 test using Microtox with the marine bacteria Vibro fischeri. This is a standard test for analysis of effluents and discharges in the USA and for production platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. The Microtox equipment is portable and can be used on site. Microtox is a cost effective way to obtain rapid results and is environmentally relevant to the North West Shelf.
Macroalgae
GEOTECH can also perform a 24hr fertilisation EC50 test for the macroalga Ecklonia radiata based on the method of Burridge et al (1999). This method is also environmentally relevant to the North West Shelf.
