Description
The minimum flow rate mains trip device is an essential aid to safety especially where experiments involving the use of water cooled condensers to trap and contain inflammable or toxic vapours are being carried out with minimum supervision, e.g. as in out-of-hours working.
The instrument has been designed to fail safe, i.e. switch off mains outlet power and indicate visually and audibly if a low or no flow rate condition is detected by the liquid flow sensor. Once the trip has operated manual intervention is necessary to restore the mains outlet power. One of the six minimum flow rate settings can be selected using the flow rate switch, 25, 50, 100, 250, 500 and 1000 ml per minute.
Mains power can only be established when the water flow rate is greater than the selected flow rate indicated on the instruments front panel.
The instrument is assembled such that all control and indicators are accessible on the front panel, i.e. mains on/off, flow rate trip switch, set and reset, plus alarm cancel push buttons. Visual indication of flow rate is achieved via a flashing LED.
The flow rate sensor is a velocity counter type with solid state pick up (impeller with hall effect device). It can be located within the fume cupboard close to existing pipe work. The signal cable is brought out to the rear of the instrument and connects via a 3 pin Din plug. |
