Capabilities in the Safe Laboratory Handling of Hazardous Pharmaceutical Ingredients and Actives, and Low Level Biohazards

  
Pharmaceutical ingredients and actives, for example high potency substances and cytotoxics, can present special challenges for businesses when advanced analysis and characterization is required. Intertek ASG has the necessary safety management systems and access to expert SHE advice to enable the laboratory to handle safely a range of hazardous and pharmacologically active materials, in compliance with UK COSHH regulations. Intertek ASG can also handle low level biohazards, for example from clinical development programmes, in a dedicated facility, and has a limited radioactive substances licence.

Examples of specialist handling facilities available within ASG include:

• Extensive array of state of the art fume-cupboards
• Class II biological handling facility
• Double hepa filtered recirculating air cabinet for handling toxic powders
• Autoclave for destruction of toxic waste
• Glove boxes for handling of air sensitive samples

 
In addition to standard facilities for the safe management of hazardous materials, the Measurement and Control group of ASG is able to design and develop tailored laboratory experiments where off the shelf solutions are not available.
