Phase composition

The composition of individual phases or segregation within them can be addressed by analytical STEM using EDX or EELS analysis.  This is particularly appropriate to mixed oxide systems.  Whereas EDX provides quantitative elemental information EELS can also identify chemical species, particularly useful for poorly crystalline/amorphous phases.
