GPC-NMR Analysis |
Materials Analysis using Gel Permeation Chromatography coupled with Nuclear Magnetic Resonance |
Interpretation of NMR spectra obtained from complex mixtures or formulations can be difficult, due to the number of overlapping peaks resulting from different components in the material. The coupling of the NMR analysis with GPC separation methods can help greatly in the simplification of this process. Intertek MSG has significant expertise in GPC-NMR analysis for a wide range of materials. |

Intertek MSG's NMR laboratory has linked a GPC apparatus to a flow cell that is placed directly in the NMR sample space.
The spectra to the right is of Glycerol Triester obtained by GPC-NMR. |

By taking NMR measurements continuously throughout the GPC separation the laboratory is able to generate a 2-dimensional plot, effectively showing NMR spectra as a function of molecular weight. This can very effectively separate out the spectra due different components, enabling a more complete analysis to be performed.
The GPC-NMR Trace of Glycerol Triester is shown to the right.
